Navigating the Smart Card Application Site
Information contained on this page will help you navigate the Smart Card Application site. It is also accessible from the "Site Layout" link in the footer.
The Header
Header
There are two sections in the header:
  • To the left there is the site title.
  • To the right there is a question mark that indicates that helpful information is available. See this page for more information.
The "What's This" Banner
Why
This site is designed to take you automatically to the most appropriate page based on your account. The "What's This" banner provides a brief explanation of the purpose of the page you are viewing. In the second line of the banner, the word "here" is a button to open the help page with more details about the page you are viewing. If you dismiss the "What's This" banner by clicking on the dismiss button, you can still display the help page by clicking on the question mark in the header.
The Error Banner
Error
If you attempt to submit a form that contains errors, you will be returned to that page and the error banner will indicate what needs to be corrected. When filling out the Smart Card application, the fields containing errors will also be highlighted in this color.
The "Do Something Else" Drop-Down
Drop
Although this site is designed to automatically take you to the next step in the application process, the text “Need To Do Something Else? Click Here” appears in a gray bar above the Operations Panel (described next). Here you can view a drop-down menu of options available to you at this step. Options might include any (but not all) of the following:
  • Edit Your Account
  • View Your Smart Card
  • Work on Your Saved Application
  • Renew Your Smart Card
  • Prepare Cards For Others
  • Contact Us
  • Quit
To dismiss the drop-down options, click on the gray bar again.
The Operations Panel
Operations
In the center of the page below the banners and the "Do Something Else" drop-down, the Operations Panel appears in a white background. This is where all of your work occurs relevant to your task. Prompts appear to gather your input. If information is required, an asterisk (*) will precede the prompt. Sometimes there will be a hint below the input area providing additional information about what is required. Error messages specific to the field will also appear below the input area.
The Footer
Footer
The footer is available at the bottom of every non-help page:
  • To the left, there is the Donate button. Donations for processing Smart Cards are greatly appreciated. Click on the Donate button to be taken to PayPal.
  • To the right, there are seven links. Click on them to view the corresponding page or pop-up containing the relevant information for each topic.
